Need advice on a few issues... 200

Hello everyone, got two questions here about my new '83 Volvo 240GL. If the answers are obvious, please forgive me- I'm an Apple computer technician, not a mechanic. ;)

Firstly, my fuel gauge doesn't work. It's stuck on Empty. That's all I know... is this something I can easily find/repair the cause of?

Secondly, it's an auto, and the numbers/letters next to the T-bar don't light up properly. Well, everything is fine unless I shift into D- a dim light appears spread across D and R. When I shift into 2, D lights up, and in 1, 2 lights up. What the hey? Is it easy to get in there and see if the bulbs are just misaligned or something?

I'll probably have more questions about this vehicle as time goes on(I only had it delivered today), but hopefully/probably no real problems will arise, as the car has only done 150 000 kilometres and has a full service history.
