88 760 Road Trip! 700

I took the 765 down South today for a 150 mile interstate drive to see if I would have to burn it on the road shoulder or not. The first leg was run at 75 to 80 mph with no major problems (the gas guage quit!). After starting and shutting down a dozen times and holding my breath every time that I started the car, I drove the snot out of it on the way home. On inspection, there is no oil blowing, thanks to the extra crankcase breather I installed, and no oil consumption despite the high wear in the cylinders.

I would highly recommend going through the grounds and connector bodies at the first sign of irregular ignition problems if you have an older 740 Turbo or 760 Turbo. I know that the purists in the bunch will turn their noses up at my offensive remarks about the wiring that Volvo put in, (and probably puked over the additional breather in the valve cover!) but you can change the Coolant Temperature Sensor, AMM, Ignition Module, Distributor, and ECU just so many times without result before realizing that something else is amiss. As a matter of fact, I put all of the old parts back in (after testing)just to prove the point. Re-working the wiring harness grounds fixed this car.

Thanks to Chrissij for the confirmation of the harness issues on the 88-89 760s. http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=918828, and to everyone who emailed their support for my project.

Regards,
