Would it be bad to put 86+ in a 83 car?

My 1986 740 seats are not as soft and thin of a leather as my 1991 940. The 740 has by far outlasted the 940. I am currently having new leather put on the 940 as we speak.

That being said, I failed to regularly use mink oil or saddle soap on my seats, so they dried out and cracked on the 940. The guy putting on the new leather said minimum of 2 time a year use mink oil, and the more often the better to keep the leather from drying out.
