OD dash light peculiarity -- I never read about this problem here on this list. 200 1993

My wife's 1993 (automatic) OD light is acting funny -- I've never read about this problem on this list, but I'm hoping someone can advise.

The OD light (up arrow) is starting to glow faintly (about half brightness) almost perpetually. I've tried it out, and the transmission is definitely in 4th while it's glowing like this. And when I hit the button, the transmission downshifts properly, and the OD light comes on *bright* -- all as it should.

And when I hit the button again to allow an upshift back into 4th, the transmission again does what it's supposed to (it upshifts), and the light goes out -- but only briefly! After a couple of seconds, the light starts glowing faintly again; and it stays that way continuously (although sometimes I notice a flicker), until I either use the shift button again or else end the drive and shut it off.

By the way, none of the other "idiot lights" are showing any problems -- this is the only weirdness exhibited.

I hope that someone can figure out the culprit.

Thanks.
