Radio Display Fades..... 700

The factory radio/cassette deck in my '88 740 has started fading-mainly the display of time and/or station, less often the signal weakens from its usual strength. Now I stay around town most of the time lately, and I have a pretty good idea of what comes in where, and this is different-almost as if the unit is recieving less power. Has anyone run across this, and what can you tell me about it if you have? Car now has 206k miles and is due for a spring checkup anyway.
