what causes large amounts of blowby? liquid style.. 200 1986

i recently purchased a second '86 240 wagon and have been going through everything and checking and replacing all common problem areas. yesterday i got to the air intake tubing and the flame trap.. i noticed that the trap was pretty well clogged up and there was a grimy oily stuff that had worked its way through the trap, up the little hose to the air intake hose which then has slowly dripped down towards the AMM.. This car had sad for at least a year in a barn before i got it and didnt seem to have been well cared for (but it was a deal). so what should i look for causing this blowby? i cleaned everything out and replaced the flame trap and it runs a lot better now, but i dont want it to happen again.. any ideas?? thanks!
Chris
