parking brake long cable replacement 700 1990

Folks,

I am a little behind...just read the post on the parking brake cable replacement, and I thought I would give everyone on the board another idea:

The "plug" on the end of my brake cable broke off 3 years ago. I bought a new cable, and set aside a day to replace it. In the meantime, my wife's '85 BMW 325e needed maintenance. I went to my BMW parts store and happened mentioned my Volvo brake cable problem....The parts guy brought out a "pinch bolt." This is a hollow cylindrical sleeve with a set screw. I decided to give this a try...basically replacing the "plug" that was crimped onto the original cable. There was plenty of the braided steel cable left to attach the pinch bolt. Well, 3 years later and the parking brake still works fine.

Regards to all,
