HELP - Trouble installing rotor and distributor cap for '90 740GL

I as trying to change the rotor and distributor cap this morning and for some reason, I can't get the 3rd screw to go into place. Picturing my distributor cap faces the back wall near the windshield and I do not have easy access to be able to see what my problem is. It could be that I have not pushed the rotor in far enough but I have pushed as hard as I can. I did make sure that the rotor is in the position to match the larger/smaller ends of the rotor against the larger and smaller inside section of the distributor cap. PLEASE HELP ME HERE.
