HELP - Trouble installing rotor and distributor cap for '90 740GL

Thanks for the prompt reply. I will try to lubricate the rotor shaft. What do I use to do that? And yes, it is a Bosch part.

Also, when I tried to put the wire connection to the bottom of the distributor cap (not the wires for the spark plugs) since it is on the bottom, it too did not go in flush. I still see about a 1/4 of an inch of the orange distributor cap.
