De ja vu all over again! 700

I got a call from a good friend that had just purchased a 91 940 and wanted me to have a look. When this thing rolled into my drive, I thought that I was my nightmare 88 760 coming in. I had no idea that the cars body work was identical! When the car's wheels hit the driveway, a puff of smoke came out of the exhaust and it started running real rough. I popped the hood, and inside was the identical setup that the 88 760 has; a Turbo B230FT with all of the oil leakage, stopped up vacuum lines and wiring issues. The engine compartment is identical in every respect, even the crappy wiring harness. Sadly, he paid too much for the car to burn it.

Does anyone know when they stopped using the rear mounted distributor and changed back to the front with the RPM sensor? Did the 940s use the same Bosch fuel system?

Thanks,
