Engine cuts out under hard acceleration 200

My 83 240 has started to cut out under hard acceleration. When you open up the throttle when driving it stalls and cuts out. If you drive it normal it's ok and in the driveway it revs free and clear and I can't induce it to cut out. Idle is fine and it starts fine. Also, I have begun to smell a faint wiff of unburned gas in the engine bay so I'm wondering if it running rich ? I'm thinking maybe the fuel regulator, 02 sensor or the catalytic converter ? Ideas or places I should look ? Thanks !
