HELP - Trouble installing rotor and distributor cap for '90 740GL

Thank you Poolman for the response. I will try again tomorrow and also make sure the flange is free of any debris and smooth.

Steve above responded to my tread as well and said to lubricate it. I don't think I have any WD-40 at home. Will clean engine oil or vegetable oil or even baby oil work as well?

Also, my question was not answered as to the wire that is on the bottom of the distributor cap, not the ones for the wires going to the spark plugs. It does not sit flush when pushed in. Is it suppose to be that way? Thanks :-)
