Who lost the corks? 200 1986

Okay folks,

I am not saying that the 4th gear disable button isn't of value, I know I've used it a lot in the past! All I'm saying is that across two 240s, I've gotten tired of troubleshooting a "shotty" design. I've had to fix this system 6 times, three of them were relay related (four if you count the bad new unit I got from the dealer). The rest of the failures included oil induced insulation failure of the solenoid wire, an electrically open solenoid valve, and a bad button on the shifter.

In short, don't forget that the tranny has a kick down cable (okay, it fails on occassion as well), but for the most part, it is far more reliable than the electronic downshift as it only relies on a cable and a sheath rather than wiring, insulation, "electronic" relay, solenoid, and a lousy NO button.

It's your call, I like both approaches, but I tend to lean towards reliability rather than a "feature" I might use a few days a year.

Jorrell
