That second option is more in the lines of what I was thinking. Stepping up the low voltage output from the sensor and sending it to MS, and stepping down the output from MS and sending it on to the Crane box so it can still drive the coil.

However, I'm no electronics whiz and I might chicken out and just do the simpler approach in #1.
