Help! Please! Losing faith... (ECU problems now) 700 1990

Hello all,
After 3 months with my new pride & joy, a 1990 780 turbo (LH 2.4 injection), I'm about ready to throw in the towel. I've had intermittant running problems, eliminated all of the usual suspects, and concluded that the culprit is the ECU, the apparently dreaded 0 280 000 563 unit. Swapped with known good unit, eliminated all problems. Purchased a used one on ebay from a reputable seller. Where my old one is intermittant, the one I just got is absolutely dead. No injector pulse, doesn't cycle fuel pump relay. I haven't contacted the seller yet, but don't anticipate anything more than getting some of my money refunded at best. I've already spent hundreds more than I ever meant to, and still have to shell out a few hundred more for door panels to make the car legal for the road... But for the matter at hand: I don't expect to have much luck with used 563 ECUs, they seem prone to age-related failure. I'm ready to swap the fuel system to LH2.2. I expect the harness will be different, and I'll need to find a 007 air mass meter, but I shouldn't have a problem finding the parts.
Before I resort to this, is there another ECU that'll interchange with the 563? Has anybody out there got one? And failing that are there any big drawbacks to downgrading to LH2.2?
Thanks in advance!
-Chris
