Replacing the AMM - check the Air Box Thermostat??? 200

Hi! I've not been a Volvo 240 owner for long, but a few months ago I purchased a 1983 Volvo 245 DL (manual 4+OD, no A/C) and have been working on it ever since. Recently I discovered that my Air Mass Meter died on me, since the car would start and die immediately without holding its idle.

After unplugging it the car ran, but it ran horribly. It has a surging idle, smells like a gas station out the back due to an insanely rich mixture, and it stalls every once in awhile when coming to a stop or not keeping it above 1200rpm or so. I've ordered a replacement AMM online for the LH Jetronic 2.0 system (which I'm pretty sure is on my model year), but I was told that it is possible that it'll go bad if I don't change the Air Box Thermostat out as well because it can be the culprit of the failure in the first place. Does anyone have suggestions on that, know how much it would cost for one, or have any other recommendations as to how to ensure I don't destroy this AMM too?
