engine dies when I turn the headlights on

Cars' battery is sufficiently charged. The headlights won't come on at all, whereas they were working fine before. Just imagine your volvo starting and idling fine, yet, as soon as you turn the knob (Or swith or whatever) to activate the beams, your car dies. Boom. Just like a toggle switch or a kill switch. Same exact type of reaction. This happened to me half a dozen or so times and after each incident there was still plenty of juice left in the battery. As far as the TYPE OF R & R PROCEDURE I utilized when swapping the blower motors, all I can tell you is that I followed the (VOLVO 240 Series-1976 thru 1993-Automotive Repair Manual, Published by HAYNES) with one exception. I removed the dashboard because someone said it would be much easier that way. I was pretty careful to keep all wiring, connectors and switchs out of harms way, but it's still very possible that I created a short circuit somewhere. This was my first time working on a Volvo, I guess it's not surprising that I was handed one of the most frustrating jobs before I even changed a spark plug on this little blue box on wheels. At this point if you could even tell me where I can find or download a GOOD wiring diagram, it would be helpful. Anyway thanks for listening to all my babbling bull-____. Hope you can help.
