Windshield wiper linkage under dash. Yikes! 200 1987

Daughter's 240:

Wipers went dead with a big clunk. Motor OK. I went under dash through glove compartment and discovered that the linkage came apart.

This is scary.

On the pasenger side wiper arm shaft under the dash there an egg shaped pulley that engages with the arm from the motor and with the other arm over to the drivers side. The splined pulley has slipped off the shaft and the cables that go around it have slipped off.

Anyone ever have this happen?

I think I have figured out how it all goes back together but puzzled why the pulley slipped off. Is just a press on fit?

Any hints, information, encouragement, anything at all, about how to get this back together?

Thank you in advance for any help on this problem.
