Must have to do with the pulses etc, but why is the 4-2-1 type better then 4-1? Can you give us a short theoretical explantion of how to figure out a good exhaust setup? Any formulas/calculations perhaps?

The stock manifold is basicaly a 4-2-1 (except #2 and 3 join right away) which reminds me: would it be beneficial to weld a plate in the manifold to keep the #2 and 3 exhaust seperated a bit longer (wont be more then 2 or 3 inches but still)
