What was the solution for the amp light on startup??? 140-160

I don't know what the voltage is. I don't know where the voltage regulator is either. I just won three guages on ebay though for pretty cheap and I'll be hooking up the Voltage guage soon to see what it tells me... It has four wires(I think, don't have it with me...) what should I hook them up to? One to the light circuit so it comes on with the headlights(I don't have any interior lights...), one to a ground, one to ? and the other to ? or maybe it's just three, so where do I pull my positive from?
