rough driving/idle problem 200 1990

David is right, fix the charging system and the other problems will clear up. As the voltage starts to drop, after it's jumped, the fuel pumps run slower and slower and the coil produces less spark and everything that needs 12 volts starves until it dies.

You kinda answered your own question when you said it runs fine with the jumper cables hooked up ........ ding, ding, ding, 12 volts good ----- less voltage bad.
