M46 Gear box replacement 700 1986

Hi,
I have a Volvo 780 Bertone with D24 TIC engine abd M46 gear box (oD J
type).
The OD is brocken down. Do you know if we can permutate a M46 gear box J type OD with a M46 gear box P type OD?
If yes, what are the transformations about this?
