240 odometer problem / cluster removal 200 1987

Barry,

As I just went through this, a couple words of advice:

*Remove the carpeted panel so you can get at the back of the instruments before you try to remove them. Look/feel up there and see if you can unscrew the speedo cable from the back of the unit. If you CANT, then it still has the lock-ring on it, and you need to cut this off with some nippers before you pull the cluster. If you don't do this, then when you try to yank the cluster out the plastic part on the cable will break. PS. if you do break it, not to worry... the cable will stay engaged in the back of the speedo just fine without it.

*Mark the location of the needle on the shaft BEFORE you remove it. If you don't put the needle back on the shaft exactly how it came off, your speedo will be off and you will have to pull it again to adjust!

Its not too bad of a job really. Good luck.

-J
