No start, 1985 240DL 200

Well she finally just gave up and threw in the towel.

First Clue:
The last couple of days she was starting after a few tries, but eventually starting. But this morning it was a huge ordeal.

Second Clue:
I got to work and home from work no problem, but when When i went to have dinner with a friend she started fine, but the car surged and nearly died while just cruising a residential street.

Third Clue:
So I made the mistake at stopping in at the local pub, i come out 1 beer later and she will not start at all. She turned over ran then died within seconds, well before i could start her going. Turned her over again, kept her alive for 10 seconds with a heavy idle, but she still eventually died. Third time she would not start at all...she is currently not starting.

So gentlemen, what is the conclusion? Mainline fuel pump(please please) or inline prepump(no no).

How much work are they going to take me and can I actually do them solo without a place to pump out my gas tank?

I am giving up on this brick, getting her running and passing her on as I am looking to finally buy her replacement. It's been a great 8 years, but I need a little more reliability.

Thanks and sorry for the bad spelling and grammer, I just walked the 3 miles home and i am too tired.
