power stearing moan 200 1986

recently the power stearing belt and or pump on my brick has been moaning. I retensioned the belt and checked the fluid and that made no difference. If i place pressure on the pump with my hand, the tone of the sound changes and the moaning sometimes stops. Nothing seems to stop the noise, except for, hold your breath now....that horrible arrisol belt dressing compound. I really hate this stuff as it is messy and only works for about 500 miles. has anyone eles had this problem? if so what is the cure? i am going to attempt to lube the shaft of the pump to see if that helps...i was gonna drop a few drops of atf on there....please advise.
