240 Power window ground 200

240 Power window ground

I am working on a friend’s 90 240 with inoperative power windows. I followed the wires to the relay (Why did they have to hide it there in the middle of the console?) The relay works fine. There is power at the switches, but no ground on the black wires there. Where did they decide to find the ground for that system? I am working behind a crazy American car mechanic that has been all over this car trying to fix a driveability problem that happened to be a bad fuel pump relay that would intermittently fail. (Never seen that before have we?) So where ever he was, he either cut that wire or left it disconnected. The things some poor old Volvos go through! I expect to find it somewhere under the dash on the driver’s side, but???
