removal of half shaft or whole shaft to teplace u joint to the differential ? 200 1990

The U joint linking the differential and the driveshaft is shot on my 245.
Would it be preferable to remeove only the half shaft or the whole shaft with the center bearing in order to replace the joint.
If I remove the half shaft only, should I expet any problemsto reinserting it in the rubber sleeve and the splines correctly
The reason why I hesitate to removve the whole shaft is that I am afraid that one or more of the bolts which secure the center bearing support to the body might break. This has happened with my erlier 245 and it did complicate matters I see that the current u-jonts which must be the original ones do not have greassing nipples What do brick boarders recommmend as replacements.
