Tail Light Problems on Wagon 200 1990

i had a very similar problem very recently with my 87 240 sedan. here's what happened-

my right brake/tail light went out so i got a new bulb. when installed, it worked too bright-as a brake light. the left side worked fine. i fiddled around with it for a while, and the best i could get besides this configuration was left tail light doesn't work, left brake light works, and right works fine. i changed the bulb holders out from my dead wagon, fiddled with a few combinations and finally got them to work. sometimes the holders can be funky. my back-up lights don't work either. once, they were out and i simply moved the wire cluster a bit and they came on for a few weeks. now they're out again and won't come on. strange.

make sure you got 1157 brake light bulbs.
