M46 making a racket. 700

And not a tennis racquet either.

88 744t with m46 and 260k

Upon acceleration, particularly when I'm turning the transmission will make a horrendous 'rotating-gnashing' noise, for lack of a better adjective. The harder the acceleration the louder the noise.
Otherwise the transmission shifts the same as always(kind of hard mystery shifting). It has plenty of fluid in the case.

How many of you have had this happen before? Center support bearing? Transmission mount? Motormount?

Other problem/different question. The car pulses sometimes upon hard acceleration and other times it seems as though it doesn't have as much power as it should.

Also. I recently had new exhaust put on the car and I noticed that the end of the tail pipe is rather sooty (black). Could this be an O2 sensor?

I know this is all kind of vague. Hope you can help.
