Power Window Motor Pushes Window Too High - Should there be a 'stop' of some sort? 700 1989

My car is a 1989 740 turbo wagon. The driver's window goes up and pushes out of alignment - enough that it whistles. I took the door panel off, and I can see where the regulator bolts to the door (in fact, it flexes and the metal is slightly broken. I put a big washer to cut down on the flex and it helped for a day or so. The hanes mentions a stop of some sort in the middle of the door. I don't see it and I don't know how it works or what I'm looking for. I took the door panel off the passenger's side, and I can't see anything different. The driver's window goes up and down really fast - I'm guessing it is a new motor and it wasn't put in right?

Any suggestions?

thx

Andrew
