Could it be the coil? 1800 1970

Sorry for the gush of posts, but the salt's washed off the streets and it's time to be an 1800 driver again. Thought I needed a valve job, but a competent Swedish Shop says no way. They think it's an ignition problem. And they don't like my Pertronix...say I should go back to the points and condenser. I hate to do that. Could it be my 30-year old coil? Symptom is an intermittent miss. Everything else checks out...plugs, wires, cap...but I have no idea how to check a coil except by replacing it...maybe the Pertonix requires something better.Anyone have any suggestions for a good replacement I can source at Advance Auto, or Pep Boys or NAPA..Thanks in advance for your input.
