Change out filter immediately to eliminate as cause. Otherwise, previously suggested tests are excellent first steps... You may just go to tailpipe and smell for fuel too before pulling fuel rail or injectors (danger of fuel spray causing fire or injecting into skin) as a first check for fuel. How old is the stuff in the tank? maybe its nasty kaka.
