UNIDENTIFIED CONNECTIONS UNDER HOOD...HELP 140-160

Hello Board, please bear with me on these few posts. I have a few unidentified hoses and connections under my hood that I am having trouble identifying them and I could use your help. This one shows the venting filter on the left side of the car, kind of underneath the air filter. I cannot figure out where the small hose connects to and there are two holes on top of the filter. Is there something missing here? Would this make the car run a little rough? Thanks for your help.
