hall trigger position 200 1988

88 240dl wagon LH 2.2. took apart the distributor because of a knocking sound for a cleaning and inspection the bently said to pry off top off hall trigger and save pin to put back in bla bla . I don't have a pin in mine so one whack with a hammer and i knock the shaft out no problem. I inspect and clean the unit and go to put it back together and i realize that the hall trigger on my unit has no marks to line up. My trigger just taps back on. So due to my ignorance i forgot to mark its location on the shaft and now i am lost !
I tried it 3 times in different places car started on first attempt ran very rough would not start on the other attempts. So can anyone tell me the correct location compared to #1 TDC or any other tricks to line it back up? Thanks for the help guys. I searched for a picture but seem to find the older style only? grrrrrr
