I can't get into reverse! 200 1983

"The lever that you pull up seems to have lost it's connection, as when I pull it it does absoulutly nothing and it's just floating there. "
If you lift the boot, you'll see that the ring lifts a metal knob over the lockout plate, allowing the shift lever to be moved into reverse. Maybe its attachment (spring?) broke?

It's been awhile since I've taken apart the shift lever, but I think I had to drive out a split pin.
