Poor Gas Milage 200 1984

I've been getting about 17 MPG ever since I've had the car. It has about 300,000 kms on it. When I first got it, the clutch slipped pretty badly. I figured this would be the cause of the gas milage, but after replacing the clutch, I still get 17 MPG. I have changed the air filter, spark plugs and wires, oil, etc. Is this just about normal for a car this age, or is there something wrong? Anything I should check/replace? With gas prices continuing to rise, I'd really like to get more than 300 km/tank! Thanks in advance.
