95' 960 Sedan Engine Mount Brackets 900

I have a '95 960 with 183k on it and it has treated me very well the past couple of years. I was working with my mechanic to replace the 3 engine mounts (2 engine, 1 tranny.)

What he found was that the actual rubber mounts didn't look to bad but the brackets that the mount attaches to were broken! The drivers side was broken and the passenger side is cracked.

A couple of questions...

- Shouldn't the mount give way before the bracket gets cracked? Is this an indication that the vehicle might have been in an accident before I bought it? Are there other forces at work?

- I can't find the brackets anywhere outside of a dealer. Everyone has the mounts, but no one has the brackets. ideas?

I've read the archives and only see in the Maint Faq. that the mount and the bracket come out as one unit even though they are 2 pieces.
