I suffer a similar trouble two years ago. One weight into the dizzy lost the spring, blocking the rotation at 40 kph and the gear was broken (now that dizzy is a donor for her brother, and also I adquire 2 dizzy gears - one for replacement, another as a reserve - on our local indian car part gray market.

Since then, I make the maintenance (dizzy dismount and oiling, test of ignition wires and cap, check of condenser and points, dwell angle - on old dizzys please dont believe on points spacing-, coil primary & secondary omhs, ignition key, tach, and capacitive discharge MSD5 ignition unit) of my ignition system every oil filter change. It take 2 hours and 1 very cool beer.
