I see you live in Oregon. whenever I fill up in Oregon, I get over 30MPG too! Is it the 'Oregon Vortex'?....no, it's because Oregon does not allow self-serve refueling and the pump jockeys never top off the tank like I did at the last fillup in WA or CA or ID. So there's maybe a gallon or half-gallon of air still in the tank.

I once got 33MPG(US) in our 83. It was only 11 mon. old, with maybe 12,000mi, so virtually brand new, but fully broken in. The national speed limit was 55MPH and I had a slight tailwind coming south on I-5 from Redding, CA. At a scofflaw 58-60MPH the engine was turning a bit over 2200RPM with the M46. I would be truly amazed if a 240 could do better than that at today's highway speeds.
