B230F Engine Head Bolts

I haven't broken one in a red block yet. Seen a couple broken in 960s, but the B230 is not going to give you the grief that Escort did (been there, the Escort head gasket kit even comes with the new bolts...). I believe Volvo's recommendation is not to reuse more than 5 times - 5! And that's probably erring on the side of traditional Swedish conservatism! Wrench away. I believe most of the resistance you encounter at first is the static friction between the head of the bolt & the cylinder head itself, so it's not all transmitted through the shank of the bolt. Don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong though!
