engine ground strap/ earth lead 120-130

The wide flat metal strap connecting connecting engine block to frame no longer exists. Instead, the car has a second wire going from battery negative terminal to one of the 3 generator mounting holes.

I want to reroute this setup. Does it matter how/ where I ground the engine to the frame? Should it be on same side as battery, or does that not really matter. I might try running wire from one of the bolts on engine mounting bracket (above that round rubber piece) to another yet undiscovered bolt on frame.
