Fuel gauge erratic 900 1995

940 non-turbo

Pumped in a full tank of gasoline a while a go and travelled for about 10km. Then I notice the fuel gauge needle had moved from a full position to a 3/4. A short while later it moved back up to an almost full position. The needle was in the full position when I left the gas station, so it couldn't be the gauge was slow to react.

What could be wrong? I would not want to let my mechanic start changing parts throught trial and error. I remember a few years back that he changed some ic parts three times and charged me twice for a persistent over heating issue.

If possible, I like to fix this myself. Thanks for all your help.

Regards
Laozong
