Am I taking crazy pills? 79 240 running hot

Hi Folks-

I just got a 245. Previous owner took pretty good care of her. One thing he said and I can confirm is that she always runs hot (gauge hits the low red consistently). PO says that he has replaced water pump, thermostat, gauge itself, radiator; pretty much everything involved.

The fan clutch seems fine, fan doesn't spin freely.

I did notice the other day that if I squeezed the radiator hose and ran over to look at that gauge, it seemed that "priming" the coolant made the gauge drop a bit. I emphasize "seemed" as I can't confirm that until I get the wife in the car to watch it happen.

Do you guys think this indicates water pump failure? Should I think about installing a new fan clutch?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
