Timing Marks 1800

Just replied to your question on the 1800 list... here's what I said, if anyone else wants to know:

The timing gear marks go together with #1 piston at TDC. You'll have to offset the crank can cam a bit to get the cam gear started, but it's easy enough to see how much -- the tooth with the mark engages the slot with the mark. Once the gear is on tight, it'll all line up at TDC. The woodruff key on both crank and cam ends up at the 12:00 position.

Without turning the motor from that position, insert the drive gear and test it with the distributor installed loosely in its mounting/clamp. The rotor (or slot in the top of the shaft) should be pointing forward and toward the block with the distributor seated in the drive gear. Looking down and facing the left side of the motor, it points to between 10:00 and 11:00, if you imagine the block representing 12:00.

Reposition gear as necessary to make that so.
