Check / cleaning heater core 200 1984

When I picked up this nice Turbo last fall, the heater fan didn't work, nor did warm air flow after the car heated up. So I am wondering if the heater core is OK.
How do I test this now that I have the dash apart for the motor replacement.
I seem to remember seeing something here or on a link of some one who cleaned out their plugged heater core using some kind of clean out method with the core still in the car. Usinf air pressure or something?
The heat valve seems to have a lot of corrosion on it. Any test for this?
