A sad tale...
Picked up a sweet '84 242turbo, with perfect interior, one owner, all maintenance records, and a mere 231K on the clock. All it needed was a new alternator and a front end job.
Son goes on an unauthorized joy ride before I got a chance to go through her and fix the little things (like a leaking coolant line near the turbo), and long story made short, it overheated. Have been slowly pulling the head off, and took it to a machine shop today, and discovered that it's cracked between every single cylinder!
Here's what I think my options are:
1. Repair old head (expensive likely)
2. Find a replacement head, may have to be refurbished unless it is already done. How much would that be?
3. Just sell as is. I have all the software to repair, except the head. She also needs the front end work (already have those part too) plus alternator (have), new stereo (have), and an ac recharge (hope that that is all that it is.
The selling point of the car as is are the wheels and tires are in excellent condition, as it the interior. Overall, the body is in very good condition.
I'm thinking of leaning towards selling. I figure it's another $500 - $1000 to get her roadworthy with me doing the work. As is, I think it's worth $800 or more based upon the wheels and interior, and body.
I have too many projects with 5 cars (my son's '89 525i needs a new intake manifold gasket) and a 30 year old house plus work travel. I think I have made the decision to sell as is, but I would like to consider your opinions.

At least I still have my '93 940 daily driver, my wife's v70, and my pride and joy, 1970 1800E with a mere 55K. I think I'll sell the whole lot and get a v70R. The 242 was a car I bought for fun, because I always wanted a 240ti
