After cleaning flame trap car is hard starting, loads-up rich & idles high ?? 200 1985

Hello All,
Yesterday I cleaned/re-gaped the plugs, fixed two minor vacuum leaks and the car ran Great (as it always has)!

Today I clean out the flame trap (which was not very dirty) and now I have a whole new set of problems.

It is now Very hard to start, loads up on fuel and the idle has jumped from 800/900 to 1,100/1,200 RPM range in "park" or "Drive" position according to in-dash tachometer.
Moving from drive to park idle will momentarily jump to 1,700 amd then come back down to the 1,200 RPM range.

Trying to start without pressing the accelerator requires cranking for about 10 seconds. Then it starts but idles very rough, slow and obviously running very rich.
It then clears up, smoothes out and runs fine after revving it up a couple of times to clear out the rich condition.
It then runs fine but is still idling much higher than before cleaning out the flame trap.

I though I may have inadvertently disconnected an electrical connector or hose during the process but can't find anythig wrong.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dale
