740 Turbo Fuel system and Pump 700

Have read the Faq and not sure whether I have a problem?

The main pump seems to be noisy (although I'm told some are)and runs constantly in Ign switch postions 2 and 3?

Should the main pump run constantly???

I can hear the in tank pump running, but have not removed it yet to check for other issues.

Also checked the fuel pressure regulator that appears to be okay? constant stream of fuel on return hose at idle and no real smell of gas from the vacuun hose pipe inlet. Is this correct?

Is there any other checks I should do? and how does the relay work or affect this or the system? I know the previous owner may have problems in that area and may have soldered repaired either the relay board or relay. hmmm

Do all 740T work like this? or does the main pump shut off once primed and up to pressure like other cars? and so no noise can be heard at all?

Just a bit confused whether I have a problem? I will be changing the fuel filter at some time in case its blocked.

Any advice would be appraeciated.
