Timing Gear, V6 700 1989

I am going to reset the tappets this weekend on my daughter's '89 760 (V6 PRV), as they are getting a bit rattley. The car has 162,000 miles on it (26200km) and is a delight to own and drive.
Is it reasonable at this mielage to also replace the cam chain and adjuster, or can I expect them to hang in there for another few miles? She has just finished college (6 looooonng years) and is off into the world next week, and I want to make sure her car is not going to do anything catastrophic.
TIA
