metallic click from rear end when brakes first appied 200 1986

It occurs when I first apply the brakes, just as braking action begins. This noise has been troubling me for a while now. The noise is external to the cabin - I hear it more with the windows down. The major bushings have been replaced with polyurethane (rear trailing arm and torque rod) the others checked and appear to be in good shape. Also the shocks are less than a year old (KYB). Maybe I have a sticky caliper? However, I haven't noticed any trouble with the braking - no noticeable pull. In addition I often have a firm knock on take-off - the bushing replacements have firmed up the rear end but haven't eliminated this noise. I have not replaced any of the u-joints, but I've hand tested them with the driveshaft removed and there isn't noticeable slop. Anybody have similar experiences? Suggestions?
Thanks for your help,
Tom
